Armed Citizen #2…

Ruger GP100

Nothing seemed out of the ordinary inside a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant when a man approached the counter and placed an order. But then he demanded of the cashier, “Give me the money before I shoot you.” Initially, Paul Sherlock joined the other customers as they bolted for the door. But then he stopped out of concern for the cashier. He recalled a June 2005 incident in which a carjacker shot at him. That was the day he decided to buy a gun and apply for a carry permit. Police say Sherlock faced the suspect, then pulled out his 9 mm pistol. The suspect put his hands in the air and Sherlock ordered him to lean against a window. Police apprehended the man without incident. The accused’s “gun” turned out to be a screwdriver.

New Phone…

Nokia 6030Well, it’s that time again. The battery on the old phone isn’t holding a charge any longer, and we were eligible to upgrade. I chose the cheapest phone available this time around rather than going for bells and whistles–and I love it. The Nokia 6030 is a bar style phone, which is kind of throw back to the old days, but it looks sharp, has great reception, a bright screen, and all the features I need in a phone. My service provider is AT&T (Formerly Cingular), and thus far I haven’t had any problems with them. If it’s time for a new phone and you have any specific questions feel free to ask me and I’ll do the best I can to answer.

Fideism Defined…

It could be argued that one of the most dangerous problems to attack the Church in the last century and half is an outgrowth of the experience-based “conversion farms” of the spiritual awakenings in America–namely, anti-intellectualism. Although certainly not born during the awakenings, one concrete example of this anti-intellectualism is fideism.

Fideism is “exclusive or basic reliance upon faith alone accompanied by a consequent disparagement of reason” (Webster’s Third International Dictionary).
