Not Gay Enough To Adopt…

A disturbing story from the Telegraph tells the story of a Christian couple in the U.K. that were denied an adopted child because they had “too idealistic a view of family life and marriage and that this might prejudice a homosexual child.” The author of the story (one of the want-to-be parents) poignantly asks, “Why is it there isn’t the same concern about placing a heterosexual child with a homosexual couple who might not be able to support a heterosexual child?”

Having read the story, I can confidently say that if this couple is “too idealistic” my wife and I might some day find ourselves in danger of having our natural born children taken away from us if we lived in Her Majesties Kingdom. Of course something like this would never happen in the United States of America, right?

  1. The state wants to make sure their wards are handed over to families with the same ideological beliefs as the state. It’s no different than any other adoption requirement an individual might have if he or she were in the unfortunate position of needing to adopt away their child.

Adoption agencies try their best to uphold the requirements of an individual who cannot keep his or her child. Why can’t the state have requirements also?

For example, say an Muslim widow had a child she couldn’t provide for, and had to resort to adopting out the child. She does her homework and finds a reputable adoption agency that will match her child up with another Muslim family. Her mind is put to ease knowing the agency will give her child a new home in an environment she is comfortable with. Isn’t that her right? Doesn’t the state have this right too?

Isn’t it good for the gander if it’s good for the goose?

  2. I do not believe these are the ideological beliefs of the state, but rather of the vocal, and unfortunately powerful minority. I believe the majority of people in the U.K. would believe this to be ludicrous. Perhaps I am fooling myself?
