A Pantoum: The Price…

the price, by aaron jackson

hammer comes down, spike rips the skin
blood drips from His hands and mine
pain withstood to forgive my sin
precious blood found nowhere in kind

blood drips from His hands and mine
i am the instrument that brought pain
precious blood found nowhere in kind
i do it again and again

i am the instrument that brought pain
the hammer bloody and cold
i do it again and again
my soul is not cheaply sold

the hammer bloody and cold
pain withstood to forgive my sin
i do it again and again
hammer comes down, spike rips the skin

  1. I really like this one. It’s kind-of haunting. But I guess I’m not familiar with this poetic form.

  2. Thank you much. My “teacher” is an old high school friend that is now an English teacher. The reason she gave me the pantoum to begin with is because it is very “easy” to use the form.

    Write First Stanza
    2nd & 4th Lines Become 1st & 4th Lines Of Next Stanza
    Again…
    Again…
3rd & 1st Lines Of First Stanza Become 2nd And Last Lines Of Final Stanza
