Murach’s Java SE 6…

Murach's Java SE 6I’m on a role with customer relations. I’m working my way through Murach’s Java SE 6, and enjoying it thoroughly. At any rate there is a tutorial mentioned in the book that I could not locate on the Murach website. When I wrote asking about it I received the following reply from the author of the book!

Hello Aaron,

Well, it looks like we forgot to post the printf tutorial for the Java SE 6 book to our web site. Thanks for pointing this out. We will fix this as soon as possible.

In the meantime, you can download the printf tutorial for our Java 5 book by going here:

http://www.murach.com/dloads/jav5/Printf_tutorial.pdf

The printf method works the same for Java 5 and 6, so everything in this tutorial should work for Java 6 even though it says Java 5.

Thanks again,

Skype Scores Big…

A couple of weeks ago I signed up for three months of Skype Voicemail just for fun. Today I received the following email from Skype:

You may or may not know but last week Skype wasn’t available for a couple of days. There were a number of reasons for this and I am delighted to say that the problem is now well and truly sorted and everything is back to normal. For those of you who tried to use Skype during that time but couldn’t, we’re very sorry. For those of you who didn’t try to use Skype - well thankfully you were not affected but we want to reassure everyone that Skype is now working happily and the problem is fixed…

…As a goodwill gesture to all you faithful Skype Pro, Skype Unlimited, SkypeIn or Skype Voicemail customers, we’re adding an additional seven days to your current subscription, free of charge. And even if you didn’t miss out on using Skype last week - you can still have a week free on Skype, on the house!

I can’t speak to the rest of the globe, but here in America we have become used to being overlooked as part of the success equation. When things like this happen I like to give a thumbs up to the few businesses left that appreciate the source of their success. Very cool!

ArrowJ’s Shuffle…

iPod Shuffle

I never thought I would spend money on an iPod Shuffle, but when my 4th Generation 20 Gig bit the dust last week that’s just what I did. Let’s face it, iPods are expensive! My wife still has her 5th Generation 30 Gig that we can use in the car, but since she uses it at work I had nothing to listen to my audio books with at night. And I have enough trouble sleeping as it is! the iPod Shuffle holds just 1 Gig, but will serve the purpose of audio book delivery system quite well, and it’s green! What could be better?

An Inconvenient Book…

Letter to Richard M. Sumrall, Library Director, Lincoln Public Library, Lincoln Illinois.

Greetings,

Today as I was walking through the library on my way to 221 Baker Street, something interesting caught my eye on the children’s display shelf. Sitting right between The Rising Star of Rusty Narl , and Digory and the Lost King sat Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth.

I asked the librarian on hand if this was a mistake. She told me that was where “they” put it. I just can’t imagine why that book belongs on that shelf. Perhaps John Lott Jr. should secure a place alongside Al Gore with his More Guns, Less Crime?

I’m hoping this was simply an oversight on the part of the “they” that made the decision to place Al Gore’s masterpiece among children’s literature. I’m certainly not blaming you for the occurrence, but I’m assuming you would agree that the kid’s shelf is not the place for political activism.

Inconveniently Yours,

Aaron Jackson
