Comparing Apples To Oranges…

Apples And Oranges

I just read a very interesting article from Tom’s Hardware that set out to bust some of the myths surrounding the price difference between Apple computers and PCs running Windows. What makes this article even more interesting is that Tom’s Hardware is basically a Windows ‘fanboy” site as evidenced by the closing sentence of the article:

The bottom line is the operating system. I personally can’t wait to see the next major release of Windows — that’s more exciting to me than the next release of Mac OS X.

The author, Tuan Nguyen, compares Apple systems to comparable Windows based PCs and find little difference in price. He points out that you start to see a huge discrepancy when you add upgrades to your Apple computer. For instance, if you add RAM or a larger hard drive to your base-line Apple the markups are extreme. The bottom line: if you buy a Mac be sure to purchase your upgrades AFTER you get the computer…of course I don’t know what that will do to your AppleCare Protection Plan.

  1. I can’t wait for the next major release of Windows either. It’s like watching a train-wreck!

  2. Yeah, I don’t even mind Windows that much. I think Win2000 Pro and WinXP are good operating systems, but I can’t say I have ever looked forward to the next one.

  3. admitting that i dont populate circles where one is likely to hear such things, the statement “i cant wait to see what the next version of windows is like” made me smile. as far as i concerned they could have stopped at windows 2000.

  4. I have been thrilled with my Apple experience since 2002. So much so that I am studying to become an Apple Certified Support Professional.

I bought a one month old iPod touch back in March and have absolutely loved it. It is a truly amazing gadget. I will be upgrading to the iphone when my current cell plan expires.

I hope you are as happy with your Apple products as I have been.
